Additional fire prevention requirements for industrial forest operations within the Prineville and John Day units of the Central Oregon District, during periods of extreme fire danger

  • Mechanized Harvesters with High Speed Rotary Saws
  • Chainsaws
  • Tracked Felling or Skidding Equipment
  • Slash Buster/Mastication Equipment
  • Cable Yarding Systems

As authorized under ORS 477.625(1)(a) and OAR 629-043-0026(5), the following precautions are required as a condition of the Permit to Operate Power Driven Machinery within the Central Oregon Forest Protection District of the Oregon Department of Forestry:

REQUIRED SHUT DOWN: Except at landings, the use of mechanized harvesters with a high-speed saw, chainsaws, tracked felling or skidding equipment, slash busting equipment and cable yarding systems are prohibited between the hours of 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time.

This Order is in effect as of July 9, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. and will be in effect until the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) determines that the fire danger has subsided and ODF has provided written notice that the Order has been rescinded.  If you are unsure about these requirements, contact any Oregon Department of Forestry, Central Oregon District field office.

The requirements listed above are in addition to the normal fire season requirements as listed in “A Guide to Legal Requirements for Preventing and Controlling Fires in Operations On and Near Forestland in Oregon”, such as spark arresters, water supply, tools, fire extinguishers and watchman service.

WAIVERS:  A Stewardship Forester or authorized representative of the forester, on a case by case basis, may waive or modify the requirements of this Order in writing, based on the hazards and risks of the specific operation.
