Dufur, Ore. – Day shift crews continued to mop up and secure lines on the Larch Creek Fire today. Fallers continue to remove snag trees in the fire area. Firefighters made excellent progress cooling the fire, which sets the night shift crew up for a night of opportunity to advance deeper into the fire.
All shifts will begin backhauling hose and supplies that are no longer needed on the fireline. Preparations are underway for a planned transition of remaining fire operations to a robust Type 3 team.
Tomorrow, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Incident Management Team 2 (IMT 2) will brief the Type 3 Team, allowing a day to shadow and download the information from ODF IMT 2 to ensure a seamless transition. Included within the Type 3 Team are local firefighters that were on the ground during the initial attack of the Larch Creek Fire.
As Local South Wasco communities begin to return to their homes, land, and recreation areas, crews will be working to mop up and patrol for any existing hot spots.
The Farm Service Agency (FSA) out of The Dalles offers disaster recovery assistance programs for lands affected by the fire. Details regarding these programs can be explained through FSA staff contacts: www.wascoswcd.org/wasco-county-farm-service-agency-staff
Evacuation orders are being reviewed once again by the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office and could be release as early as tonight.
