MONUMENT, Ore. – Wind, heat, record dry vegetation and topography continue to drive growth on the Courtrock Fire. With less smoke and more visibility, multiple helicopters, including from the Oregon National Guard, were able to deliver water drops today on the southwest and southeast portions of the fire.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Incident Management Team is in unified command with ODF Team 1 on the Courtrock Fire. OSFM task forces protected homes and structures with wildland firefighters on the line.
Wildland firefighters continued connecting line, improving containment at the end of the fire north of Hamilton Mountain. Both the southwest and southeast portions of the fire remained active under today’s weather conditions and with record-dry vegetation.
Over 180 wildland firefighters and 30 landowner resources battled growth on the Courtrock Fire with some success given the weather and conditions. Landowners operating bulldozers along the south and southeast perimeters in conjunction with Team 1’s operations section continue to serve as a major asset to firefighters working to minimize the fire’s spread.
With northwest winds driving growth to the southeast, today’s focus was on slowing progression on the Malheur National Forest and adjacent private land in the Fox Valley.
Due to fire activity in the area, the U.S. Forest Service has issued closures for the Malheur. Up to date information on Malheur National Forest closures can be found here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/news/malheur/news-events
